Fall is here! Apples are here! Time to make apple everything. Let’s talk about our Favorite Fall Apple Recipes.
Five minutes from our house is this tiny little orchard. It’s a neighborhood gem. Not a big production, just a family with some land and beautiful trees. They sell eating apples and baking apples and a few apple goods. That’s it and we are grateful for that.
Last week the hubs ran over there and brought back a paper bag full of fresh baking apples and a smaller bag filled with eating apples! I seriously couldn’t contain myself. AHHHH! Fall is here!
First order of business. Trying the apples. Because of Covid there is no apple tasting at the orchard, so we did our own. The baking apples are firm, slightly tart and adorably sized.
The eating apples were super crisp and slightly sweeter. Both perfection and both will be consumed in no time.
Since last week, we have cranked out 4 apple recipes and if all goes well I have 2 more to go. So why not talk apple recipes today! Let me first point out that not all of these are plant based (aka Vegan). I’ll point out the ones that are.
These recipes are ones I make every single year both in the fall and sometimes in the winter. Some freeze beautifully, like the apple butter, and others get devoured in 3 days, like the apple crisp.
I know fall is all about pumpkin this and pumpkin that, but really guys, who doesn’t love the smell of a freshly baked apple crisp?
Slow Cooker Apple Butter (vegan option)
Dust off your slow cooker for this one because it is AWESOME! Basically all you need are bunch of apples, a little sugar and cinnamon. Then you wait… all day (or overnight) and blend. It’s incredible on toast, on ice cream or as a friendly gift.
Slow Cooker Unsweetened Cinnamon Applesauce (vegan)
Seriously better than any other applesauce you can buy! With good apples (peeled or no not peeled), and cinnamon sticks. NO SUGAR! Just the natural sweetness of slowly cooked apples.
Once you have your good applesauce, this cake is easy delicious and very fall like! It’s not a terribly sweet cake making it perfect for breakfast or afternoon snack.
Apple Oatmeal (vegan option) via the yummy life
This is comfort breakfast! We love this recipe on chilly mornings. The apples get cooked into the oats and they are divine! I use oat milk, and skip the butter.
This is my favorite apple muffin recipe. With both shredded apples and chunks of apples, it’s all about apples!
Apple Crisp via Minimalist Baker
I am in love with this recipe! Super easy and totally plant based. Hands down my favorite apple crisp. Only modification is I cut the sugar to 2/3 cup in the topping and a touch under 2/3 cup in the filling.
Apple Smoothie (vegan option) via Well Plated
Apple smoothies are delish and very satisfying! A no waste trick I like doing is keeping the apple peels from other apple recipes like apple butter, washing them and freezing. These peels perfect in smoothies adding both fiber and flavor!
Apples in salads
Adding crisp delicately tart apples to salads is a winner! Whether you go with a green spinach salad or grain salad, apples pair well with nuts and mustard dressings. Here are 2 of my favorites:
Enjoy the apples guys!
