Every trip, vacation and adventure is different, but one thing that doesn’t change are my travel essentials. Today I’m sharing my 10 items that are a must on every trip in Currently Loving: Travel essentials.
{Post Updated 7/30/2019}: No matter the season, year or destination, these 10 items still hold true for me! Case in point, I’ve started packing for an upcoming trick and all 10 are my first go to items. Plus it makes packing way less stressful when I know I’ve got my essentials.
With or without kids, domestic or international, what I bring on trips plays a big role in making the trip successful and enjoyable. This means I try really hard to only bring the most necessary practical gear possible.
My goal with every trip I take is to put thought into every item I bring and travel light. Yes shoes and outfits will be reused, but at the end of the day traveling light makes the whole experience way more fun.
Over the years, I’ve learned what items are truly necessary and essential for travel. Obviously we are all different and have different wardrobes, but these 10 items are the most basic things I always need to make my travel comfortable.
My Travel Essentials:
1. [amazon text=Minimalist Walking Shoes&asin=B00307RY7W]
These light minimalist Saucony walking shoes are my go to for any trip! They are versatile, cute and really comfortable. I rock these with shorts, pants, skirts and even dresses (with no-show socks)! I especially love that they fit my inserts making them extra comfy.
2. [amazon text=Le Sports Sac Tote&asin=B00AJW85A6]
This is my favorite travel tote for so many reasons! It is waterproof which is great for unexpected rain or spills. It’s large enough to fit a wallet, Nalgene, camera and even a rolled up raincoat. It’s simple, sleek and understated. This purse is high quality without screaming a brand which makes it less of a target for theft. I love this tote so much I’m considering getting a very similar cross-body version for my South American travels.
3. [amazon text=Skullcandy Earbuds&asin=B004MWL1TQ]
I don’t have super fancy bulky headphones because in my opinion they are not practical and in certain countries, a target for theft. My favorite simple headphones are these skullcandy. They insulate sound well while being comfortable for travel and exercise.
4. [amazon text=Contigo Coffee Mug&asin=B0757VJMM9]
If you follow my blog, you know I’m always trying to waste less. On vacation, when the hub’s and I seem to be buying coffee’s left and right, it’s so easy to waste so many coffee cups. Instead I try my best to pack my travel mug. It’s leak proof and awesome for hot drinks, cold drinks or even makes a great place to store breakable items in your suitcase.
5. [amazon text=Marmot Rain Jacket&asin=B01D2U2LBA]
You never know when it’s going to rain so traveling with a trusty raincoat is a must! I bought my Marmot Jacket over 5 years ago and it’s been amazing! Totally waterproof, breathable and packable. Great for hiking or walking through the city.
6. Trail Mix
Even on vacation, I always carry a healthy filling snack with me. My favorite is walnut heavy trail mix. I normally make a batch at home before leaving and separate into 3-4 portions. I like mixing dried fruit for fiber, walnuts and pumpkin seed. Super easy! Once I get to my destination and I’m out of trail mix I try to find local healthy snacks.
7. A Hat([amazon text=Tennis&asin=B004UYE4MC] or [amazon text= Baseball cap&asin=B014HZQYLM])
For sunny days, rainy days, bad hair days or workouts, a hat is always essential. My 2 favorites are my Nike dry-fit tennis hat and my Ralph Lauren cap. I normally choose one for each trip depending on what I have planned and how hot it will be.
8. [amazon text=Carabiner&asin=B01GA3N9MQ]
These nifty little clips are so helpful on trips. Seriously there have been so many times when I need to hang something from a backpack or suitcase or hook. Basically these little guys always come in handy.
9. [amazon text=Nalgene&asin=B001NCDE4S]
A trusty water bottle is a must on any trip. I love this Nalgene since it holds a lot of water and is super easy to drink from. I simply clip it to my trusty carabiner and boom I’m ready to go.
10. [amazon text=Running Shoes&asin=B0764BXSCB]
Running, walking, light hiking, beach walking, workouts… running shoes are good for everything! I bring running shoes to every trip no matter what! Right now I’ve been loving these New Balance ones because they are lightweight, rarely look dirty and are super comfortable.
What do you think? Are there any essential travel items you can’t live without?
