Goodbye long snowy winter and hello Spring! Today I’m excited to share what we have been up to lately in Spring time happenings.
Spring has sprung and I am so craving warmer temps, longer days and warm sunshine!
It was a lovely winter. Words I’d never thought I’d say. But it’s true. This winter was actually fun. Lots of beautiful snow days with the girls and the hubs. Lots of donut dates. Lots of time spent playing and reading by the fire, sipping coffee and making good food.
Of course this winter was even more magical than others because of Beany too. She really completed our family and I have loved every moment of the last 7 months with her.
The last few weeks have been entertaining and nuts as usual. The kids are growing and keeping us busy as always, the hubs tackling spring projects around the house, us traveling, and finding balance with new routines
Spring break trip to abuelo’s house
We just got back from spending time with my family in Houston. It’s always fun taking the girls down there because it’s a complete change of pace, scenery and routine. Everything is new and different. Parts of Houston even feel like you are in a different country.
On this particular trip, Poppy had a little bit of a harder time adapting to the new environment which meant more acting up. But as someone who has moved around a lot, I want her to learn how to adapt. So she will get better, I have faith in her.
It’s so special watching my family spend time with the girls. Especially when we only see each other a few times a year. It’s not easy but we make it work. And for me, I love coming home, hanging with my folks and my sister.
We have this new fun tradition too, where my sis and I plan a sister day! No kids! Just her and I doing things we like doing but rarely get a chance to do! On this trip our sister day included tons of yoga, tumeric lattes, smoothies, Korean food, pastries, ice cream, and lots of girl talk. I’m already excited for our next sister date!
Baby food and ending pumping
My baby is finally eating solid food! AHHH! I can’t believe it! As in opening her mouth willingly sometimes! This kid has been refusing to eat solid food for the last 2 months, but finally at 7 months she is ready! Oatmeal, purees, homemade apple sauce, and smoothies, I am pretty excited to help my Beany explore the incredible world of food!
This also means I’m one day closer to being done pumping. My body is so intuitive because I feel like it already knows that Beany is eating solids and is slowing down my milk production. I’ll pump as long as my body allows it and then it’s back to normal life 🙌
Solo traveling with 2 under 3
I survived my first solo trip with my munchkins with a 2 hour plane delay and everything! And packed for an 8 day trip in 1 carry-on and 1 backpack! Not going to lie, I am pretty darn proud of myself and also completely exhausted.
It was definitely an eye opening experience. My plan is to share how it went and also share the things I did to make it manageable. Stay tuned for these upcoming posts.
Daily yoga
I’ve started fitting in a little yoga into my day! And it’s been AMAZING!
Here’s how: Baby Beany wakes up most days around 4-5AM. I change her, feed her, and pump. Then I do about 20 min of yoga with her laying on the floor next to me. After that it’s blog time before the rest of the my household gets up. It’s not a lot of time time and some days I don’t get to it until later in the day but it has made a world of a difference in my energy level, body, strength and overall stress.
My tot has also added a little yoga into her week. A few times a week we do Cosmic Kids yoga on YouTube. Poppy LOVES these videos! They are essentially a story time told with kid yoga poses. So she listens, does a little yoga and climbs all over me while I do my own yoga practice.
And last but not least, the hubs has been getting into yoga too! I am so proud of him! He actually said to me yesterday “I want to make yoga more of a daily thing. Can you help remind me?” Umm… of course!
Reading
As in actual books. Not cookbooks! Until recently, the last full book I had read was over a year ago! But just like yoga, I am doing my best to fit in a few pages a day when the girls sleep or right before bed.
I use to try to read fiction but it didn’t seem to hold my attention. Instead, parenting, zero waste living, minimalism and inspirational books are my jam right now.
Slow living and the blog
One of the things I’ve talked about a lot on the blog has been living slower and in the moment. This is a concept and a lifestyle change that I’ve consciously been working on. Every day it gets a little easier to live slower and enjoy life at that moment. Consequently I’ve had trouble finding extra time for the blog. It’s a trade off, less computer time, more family time. I’m OK with that.
I have, however, started thinking about trying new things on the blog. In addition to sharing recipes and life posts (which are still my passion), I am contemplating sharing videos. Videos about travel, life as a stay at home mom, and other things we are dabbling in. I am very new to videos and video editing so this would be a total adventure but it’s something I have always wanted to learn about and try. What are your thoughts? Would that be something you would like to check out?
Summer capsule
One of my goals for the last few years has been to embrace a minimalist capsule wardrobe and only purchase items of clothing that I truly need and make me happy.
Since giving birth in Aug 2017, I’ve purchased 2 vest, 1 long sleeve shirt, 1 pair of thermal tights and a package of athletic socks. Trying my best to keep this up.
Now that summer is coming and that my pregnancy weight is mostly gone, I can’t wait to sort my summer clothes, see what still fits and only keep what I love. Once I do that, I can see what staple pieces I am missing and need. Fingers crossed I can pull this together soon and show you guys!
Friend season
As the winter ends and spring blossoms, I feel like we are gearing up for lots of events with friends. In the next 2 months, we have a wedding, out of town visitors, dinner parties, friend events, girls nights and play dates. YAY!
I love that about Minnesota, when the weather starts warming up, people just want to hang out and be outside! I can’t wait to see people I haven’t seen in a while and get some much needed outdoor time!
Summer plans
Thinking of summer makes my brain go a little nuts: What are we going to do this summer, what are the girls going to do, are we going to travel anywhere, how many tennis lessons will I teach, are we going to have a garden, what about house projects, … I could go on and on.
First things first. Scheduling Poppy’s trip to Spanish camp (with grandparents), planning a kid-free getaway for the hubs and I, and arranging tennis lessons with clients.
YEP! I will be teaching tennis again after 1 years off due to pregnancy! Can’t wait to get back out on the court! And if you or your kiddos would like tennis lessons in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, send me a message!
TV lately
The hubs and I have been lucky lately that both girls are going to bed around the same time (8:30PM) most nights! That means we actually get time to ourselves. This is when we talk, do any fun online research together, eat dessert, read and/or watch TV. Lately we are into:
One day at a time – a hilarious Netflix show about a Cuban family that reminds me so much of mine! Love this show so much!
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver – our favorite comedy news show! This is probably our favorite show to watch together. Smart, informative, a bit depressing, yet very funny. Always sparks good conversation for us.
Ugly Delicious with David Chang – A fun foodie show covering beloved foods (like BBQ, tacos and pizza) and how different cultures make them. Very interesting and totally makes me want to eat my way through the world.
Cooking with Poppy
My new favorite thing in the world is cooking and baking with my toddler. Poppy has been loving the kitchen lately especially with the little helper stool the hubs built her!
She loves making blender muffins and decorating them with chocolate chips or sprinkles. Since cracking eggs is her favorite activity, she will randomly ask me to “crack an egg” throughout the day 😍 which melts my heart every time!
By helping out in the kitchen she is discovering new foods and learning to love the process of making the food she eats. I couldn’t be happier.
Now that it’s Spring time what’s new with you? What are you into lately? Any new personal or family habits?
