Spring has finally sprung here, the snow is melting like crazy and the sun is shining! Here are were our Spring Happenings.
March was a long month for us. And although some of it was really fun, some other parts were not so fun. But with the temperature rising we are so excited for the days ahead!
ABA Therapy
After sharing our new norm in my last post (Real Life: Autism Diagnosis), we received so many kind words, messages and helpful resources from so many of you. Thank you truly. We are very lucky to have such a supportive community of friends and family!
ABA Therapy for our little Poppy is our number one thing going right now. Hours were ramped up to full and we now have 5 on our therapy team. Day to day is still sometimes chaotic but we are getting use to it all.
The hubs and I have been training as well for the last 2 months so we will be running our own mini-sessions with Poppy to help continue her learning on the off days. Also I am beyond excited do more outdoor therapy! With the sun shining, Poppy is spending more time outside with her team and this so good for everyone!
We are taking this day by day, making adjustments, asking questions, and trying to make this as easy and fun for our kiddo as possible. At the same time, the hubs and I are always working to find a balance for us.
Illnesses
It has been a hard month for illnesses! Kicked off the month with the hubs catching the flu. Luckily the rest of us were spared. Two weeks later both girls caught all the illnesses: ear infections, stomach virus and a cold all at the same time. While our littles struggled, the hubs battled major allergies/stomach virus and I fought a cold.
All I can say from this experience is: being a sick parent while your kids are sick SUCKS! Also so glad we have a washer and dryer! Enough said!
Spring
Despite having spent the last week either sick or at the doctor’s office, we are beyond pumped for spring. It seems the outside world is melting and the sun is shining much brighter these days. Seeing runners, bikers and neighbors walking their dogs is mood lifting.
The few warmish days we have had, have been glorious. The girl and I fit in 2 playground visits and lots of time playing outside with the bubble machine. Time outside relieves all stress, refreshes the soul and simply makes us way more damn peaceful!
I’m already daydreaming of early Spring grilling, lunch picnics on the deck, and letting the girls run free in the yard. Ahhh can’t wait.
Chicago
We took some much needed time off this month, and it was pretty great. A quick 3 day getaway felt like an eternity. No kids, no responsibilities, just the 2 of us doing the things we like to do, sleeping, walking, exploring, eating, and talking.
Trip highlights included:
- A visit to the Art Institute of Chicago– totally loved this museum!
- Rick Bayless’s Xoco – fabulous Mexican street food, churros and hot chocolate
- Frank Lloyd Wright’s Home and Studio– incredible architecture for it’s time and lots of fun facts
- Hopleaf Bar – Belgian food, Belgian sours and fun atmosphere. The perfect date night!
- Watching the river turn green over St. Patrick’s Day weekend
- Hotel EMC2 Autograph Collection – fabulous hotel to feel pampered, sleep and enjoy all the fun gadgets.
It think time off is going to be especially important this year. We are so wrapped up in Liv’s therapy and her progress right now, that taking time away is good for our mental health and relationship. Otherwise, there is a good chance we might go loopy.
Spring Cleaning
Is there a better feeling than having a clean house or a freshly organized closet? I don’t think so! The actual cleaning part isn’t always the easiest to get motivated to do, but once I start doing it, it’s AMAZING!
I actually just finished cleaning my house… you know post “the plague” that hit us. And last night I spent a solid 2 hours going Marie Kondo on my closet – sorting, purging, trying on and folding. It felt good. Summer capsule, I am anxiously awaiting your arrival!
Girl Time
It was a long winter and a rather isolated one. With crappy weather and a crazy schedule, I did not get out much. Now that the sun is out, I’m doing my best to get some much needed time with girlfriends.
Recently did an escape room with some girlfriends and it was a blast! Made it with 2 minutes remaining! Really fun, kind of ridiculous experience, and I totally recommend it for a fun night out with friends!
Also gotta share that one of my besties is having her first baby soon! Ahhh can’t wait. And I’m visiting another friend in a few months! So you know, I’m doing what I can to getMaking an effort to get some much needed girl time.
Getting Active
I have such an itch to get OUT and RUN! Armed with new kicks (Brooks GTS18 – super soft, comfy and light), I am already trying to squeeze in some runs into her crazy schedule. Now I just have to retrain the girls on sitting nicely in the stroller during our stroller runs. One day at a time right?!
Spending Time with my Parents
I would like to spend more time with my parents, so Beany and I are taking a quick trip to see them. I am really looking forward to this. Hoping to take our little to the beach for the first time, maybe introduce her to tennis and just spend time at home eating good mexican food.
Grays
I officially have gray hair and I’m ok with that. I spotted one a few weeks ago, but now I have a couple. I’m 100% proud of them and actually kind of curious to see how my hair changes with time. I plan to rock the gray.
That pretty much sums up what’s happening over here? How’s your Spring going so far?
