What a historic day!!!! President elect Joe Biden and first female Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris (YES YES YES!) did it!
I cannot express my excitement and relief! Let us dance in the streets and celebrate! Our celebration involved dancing and celebratory ice cream! As my 5 year old put it…”I’m so excited Joe-Joe won! Trump is not so kind.”
People voted. Votes were counted. Character won over hate. If the last 4 years have taught us anything, is how the Trump administration brought forward the worse in ourselves. And because of that, people started paying attention, new people got involved, and change is finally happening!
I know we can’t just vote out white supremacy. Men and women who cling to self-interested ideals and are threatened by the empowerment of others will keep showing up if their authority isn’t checked in politics or whatever the industry. But we must continue to fight and work for a united country under an anti-racists, anti-sexist and pro-science framework.
I am more hopeful today than I have been in a long time. I’m in awe of the mobilization of people like Stacy Abrams and the masses that voted. I’m inspired by the Black Lives Matters and climate strikers that have taken to the streets to make their voices heard. It all made a difference. And although the fight is far from over, I’m filled with hope that anything is possible.
