Sure the big moments are great, but life is so much more about the little stuff. The daily little smiles, happy feelings and simply pleasures. Today I’m sharing what’s been making me smile in Currently Loving: It’s about the little things.
Happy August everyone! I hope you are enjoying the summer sunshine before the kiddos head back to school.
It has been a busy month for us filled with lots of fun visitors, lots of celebrating, lots of cheers-ing and lots of fun exploring as a family. At the same time, it has been a humbling month in so many ways.
As much as we have enjoyed this month, we have also been reminded that life with kid’s is always unpredictable. The highs are high and lows are pretty low. I think overall we booked the first half of the month a bit tight. The girls could definitely feel that.
But as the month comes to an end, we are looking forward to a slower September and October. As much as I love summer, I can’t wait for fall. That’s the great things about the seasons here, you get time to really to enjoy them and before you know it the next one rolls around. (except for winter… that one can last a little long).
Personally, I’m mentally preparing myself up for a change of pace soon. Less tennis lessons, more kid time. Less running around town and more at home/neighborhood time. I’m also trying to focus a bit more on me, mentally and physically… Ha! It’s a constant struggle to find a good balance.
Top of mind for me right now is gratitude. For a while there, I was getting caught up the busyness of life and travel and doing doing doing. When this happens, I have to consciously slow down, prioritize things and find gratitude in the present. I notice when I am conscious about trying to enjoy every part of my day no matter how mundane, everything is much more fun!
These are the little treasures making me so incredibly happy right now:
Sweet Cora’s (Beany) 1st Birthday
OK you got me, this is not a “little thing.” This is a big thing. A big moment. A big deal.
Happy birthday to this sweet happy ray of sunshine. I truly do not know what life would be like without you. Since the moment she came into our lives, she has brought nothing but love and happiness. I mean this child is constantly laughing and smiling. The sweetest happiest kid I know. Thank you for choosing us as your family. Dada, Poppy and I love you more than you will ever know.
Without a doubt, my sweet Beany brings joy and happiness into my everyday.
[amazon text=Compost Bin&asin=B01E5ZPVYU]
I don’t know how something so simple can make me so happy. Seriously every time I walk by it I smile! Love the color, love the simple design, and love composting! Basically saving the environment = happiness!
[amazon text=Garlic Press&asin=B00I937QEI]
I’m not normally into specialized kitchen gadgets, but this thing is AMAZING! Recently I find myself mincing garlic all the time! And this little gadget saves me so much time and work! You pop the garlic unpeeled and press! It’s pretty much the best thing ever. For anyone who hates chopping garlic, I 100% recommend this.
Everyone Shampoo
The hubs and I have been searching for a more natural shampoo that we really love. We have been using this Everyone Shampoo for a few weeks and really like it. It smells amazing (unisex scent), it leaves our hair clean and scalp itch free.
[amazon text=Argan Oil&asin=B004Z209HS]
My love! Every day after I wash my face in the morning, then apply argon oil and it makes me so darn happy! I’ve been using this all natural oil on my face for over 6 months now. My face is soft, clear and hydrated. No more chemical laden creams for me.
[amazon text=Ginger Kombucha&asin=B01M9GLFZ5]
As I am not drinking alcohol much lately (because it makes me feel like poop), I’ve been digging Kombucha as a fun substitute! Ever since giving birth to my Beany, I’ve been about 85% off alcohol with the occasional vacation, date night or dinner party beverage and it’s been awesome! Instead GT’s Ginger Kombucha is my favorite drink treat right now. Sharp with that ginger zing and light effervescent, plus it just makes you feel good inside!
Tahini Granola
I always have granola around, it’s one of my favorite snacks! And ever since I discovered this oil-free tahini granola, I’m a complete addict. Every afternoon I grab one of the girls’ cute snack bowls and munch away on a handful of granola with a few dates and dark chocolate. This is my happy snack.
Have it all – Jason Mraz
My Poppy has been absolutely obsessed with this song and music video and it’s so cute! She calls it the “Neighbor Song” and adores dancing alongside everyone in the video. Watching her do her thing, sing along and dance her butt off makes me so happy. Kids are so sweet and innocent. I hope music can bring her this much joy forever.
Stony Field Yogurt Squeezers
In an effort to continue giving my toddler better snack options, we have started a post quiet-time frozen yogurt squeezer tradition. So every day after her hour in her room, she is so pumped to eat one of these organic yogurt tubes. We freeze them and she thinks it’s the best thing ever! Hurray for healthier snacks she is actually excited about.
Parts Unknown
I love Anthony Bourdain. Always have and now more than ever, Parts Unknown is even more special. The hubs and I used to watch his show every once in a while but lately it’s been our go-to. Every episode a new country, a new adventure. Watching Anthony meet with people from all walks of life while still getting a sense for the country and it’s culture. This show (available on Netflix) truly makes my soul smile and makes me want to travel like crazy!
Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations
Speaking of souls, have you heard this podcast? I’m not a huge podcast listener but this one I’ve really loved lately. It’s basically Oprah interviewing thought-leaders, authors, and people she admires to have spiritual uplifting conversations. Each conversation definitely gets me thinking and helps me feel much more connected to myself. It may sound a bit hooky but this podcast really brightens my day and helps me find so much gratitude in everyday things. Thanks Oprah!
