I’m Val and I’m so super excited to be here! It took a little while (3 years to be exact) but with a little baby size nudge from my sweet little Poppy and the unconditional support of my sous chef/tech support husband, I am finally here.
Sweet Poppy Seed was born in 2015, alongside the birth of baby Poppy. The site is a celebration of wholesome, nutrient-packed meals, and the beauty of slow family living filled with everyday adventures. Val uses simple organic ingredients create easy-to-prepare, vegetable-centric recipes that families love—leaving room, of course, for a scrumptious dessert. Sweet Poppy Seed is about more than just great food. It’s also about parenting, travel and family life.
To me, food is love and I share this love through every dish I make for my family.

Me in a nutshell:
I’m a Venezuelan-born Midwestern transplant who loves to cook and eat! Wife, mother, former college tennis player, Environmental Sustainability Project Manager and lover of all things vegetable, I’m an in-motion kind of person—much like sweet Poppy, my spirited 15 month old and the site’s namesake. On SweetPoppySeed.com, I hope to share my love of food through nourishing recipes, sweet uncomplicated desserts, as well as some parenting and travel tips that I have picked up along the way.
This blog is a true passion of mine and I love connecting with fellow cooks, eaters, parents and travelers! So don’t be a stranger and drop a comment or 2!
Thanks for stopping by ❤️
