Here is a toast to my baby sister. Who I love, often torment, but did I mention love? In honor of her and the next big chapter in her life, we are sipping Velvety Whiskey Sour tonight.
I was not always the nicest to my little sister. I was never terribly mean or anything, just more of a I love bugging her to death kind of sister. Irritating her, making fun of her… you know normal sibling stuff.
As little kids, my sister did not put up with my crap. I remember being about 10 or 11, so my sis was about 6. I was bothering her about something so she found a little foam T-ball bat to chase me around the house with.
Luckily I was taller and faster than her, so I took the bat away and hid it on a top shelf that she couldn’t reach. Unfortunately for me, she was smart enough to find another weapon. None other than my dad’s tennis racket.
This racket, my friends, was NOT made out of foam. Ha, needless to say I probably deserved that!
But don’t get the wrong impression by that story. She is not actually an aggressive person. I just make her aggressive I guess. It is a skill of mine… irritating people.
No no… my sister is loving, loyal and compassionate. She is the kind of person that loves hard and won’t let you forget it. I remember when I was pregnant, how excited she was to be an aunt. And now as an amazing aunt, she is always thinking of baby Poppy spoiling her with the cutest stuff.
She has always been more social than me. Truly enjoying the company of so many people. Always including others, inviting people over for dinner, making people feel welcome and cared for. I admire that of her.
If she is your friend, you will always feel loved.
She is smart and adventurous. My sis is smart in every way that I am not. With math, numbers, computers… technical things. But she is also a whiz kid for languages picking them up like it’s no big deal.
Adventure runs through her blood too, just like it runs through everyone else in my family. My sis went to Europe by herself for a month! I mean that is a true adventure and I was so proud!
So today I want to celebrate my sister for being the best person I know. Cheers to you sis! Wishing you a lifetime of happiness and success 💕

- 4 ounces whiskey*
- 2 ounce fresh-squeezed lemon juice
- 1 ounce sugar
- 1 ounce water
- 1 egg white (this creates the velvety head but can be omitted)
- 3-4 drops Angustora bitters OR Blackstrap bitters
Instructions
- Mix sugar and water in a small glass until dissolved.
- Pour whiskey, lemon juice, sugar mixture and egg white into a cocktail shaker and shake for about 20 seconds. Make sure to really use those muscles to shake up the drink. This will create the frothy egg white head.
