Hiya there… feeling like something cold, something refreshing and something a little bit naughty? Maybe an adult slushy? I have just the thing. Spiked Strawberry lemonade.
Post Updated {6/4/19}: Not going to lie, it’s been in the 80s for the past few days and I am totally loving it! Warmth, tank tops, sunshine, running through the sprinklers and yes adult slushies 🙂 What I love about this summer drink is that you can change how much alcohol you add and it is truly refreshing. Made with real strawberry and not a store-bought sugar-loaded concentrate, it’s a real fruit drink. Our favorite way to enjoy this drink is either on the deck overlooking the girls running through the sprinkler OR at the end of a long day when the girls are in bed, enjoying the sunset. Cheers friends!
This is one of those drinks that is pretty. I mean look at it. It looks like the kind of drink you enjoy poolside with a little umbrella just shooting the breeze with friends. The drink enjoy sprawled out on a lawn chair while your kids run through the sprinklers . Or the drink you chug the second you step foot at a tropical vacation destination.
2 ingredients that we always have on hand: strawberries and lemons. Since I make smoothies for the minions everyday, I always keep strawberries, fresh or frozen. And lemons are always always always in my fridge. I am a self-proclaimed lemon freak. I squeeze lemon juice on everything and anything! So yes lemons are always around.
What makes this spiked and fabulous? Vodka my friends. Vodka.
Crush some ice. And. BOOM. Let the summer party begin.
This is a great recipe to make a pitcher of and share with friends or neighbors. And since you can adjust the amount of alcohol, the drink can match the setting you are in. This slushy is even great sans booze.
If your kids want a fancy looking summer drink, blend all of the ingredients minus the vodka and Cointreau/orange liqueur and serve it up for them with a fun fruit garnish. Then add slightly less liquor to the remainder in the blender for the adult drinks. Taste test alone the way.
4 but can be easily doubled
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 ½ - 2 cups strawberries* (frozen or fresh)
- 3 ounces or 6 tablespoons lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 3 ounces or 6 tablespoons vodka
- 3 tablespoons Cointreau or orange liqueur
- Ice*
- Additional strawberries and lemon slices for garnish, if desired
Instructions
- Place 4 pretty glasses in the freezer.
- To make simple syrup, Add sugar and 1 cup water to a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, until sugar has dissolved. Let it cool and put in fridge while you prep the rest of the ingredients.
- In a blender, add strawberries, lemon juice, vodka, liqueur, simple syrup and a handful of ice.
- Serve in cold glasses with a strawberry and lemon slice garnish.
Notes
Feel free to adjust vodka if you want it lighter or stronger. Or skip it all-together for a virgin drink. Also if you use frozen strawberries you will not need to add very much ice. If using fresh strawberries you will need to add more ice.
