Morning everyone,
Hope you had a great weekend! If you were in the Minneapolis, it was BEAUTIFUL! Crazy to have 50+ degree temps in mid-November but I’ll take it!
The hubs, little poppy seed and I had a lot of celebrating to do over the last few days. It was hub’s bday so there were lots of fun at home and twin city activities planned.
Warning… I love birthdays and pretty much find them to be the perfect excuse to celebrate my loved ones all week. Nothing too expensive or over-the-top, just some fun quality family time doing some of their favorite things! I try to change it up each year so we shall see what I can come up with next year! What do you do for birthdays? Any fun ideas to share? Leave me a comment 🙂
Lazy family brunch- mmm pancakes, scrambled eggs and coffee. The hubs love love loves buttermilk pancakes especially with maple pecans like they serve up at the Original Pancake House. So I channeled my OPH and gave it a shot! The first 2 pancakes in the batch turned out not so good! My thought is that the griddle was not hot enough.
After that, we were cruising with fluffy buttery pancakes! And of course made some maple candied pecans to go on top. Just about a tablespoon or 2 of maple syrup and 1/3 cup of chopped pecans in a small sauce pan on med-low does the trick. So if you are looking for a fun fancy-feeling but secretly easy breakfast, give these a shot. Maple Pecan Pancakes up on the blog soon!
Matinee Movie- Also on the bday agenda was a movie day! My hubs LOVES movies. This was a baby free activity. St.Anthony Main Theater across the river from downtown is such a fun romantic cinema to check out with $6 matinees! Crazy cheap compared to most places these days. We saw Spectrum the new Bond film. That’s right Bond fans over here! And I mean Daniel Craig is pretty amazing! 🙂
Romantic Dinner- This is a staple for us. We are not big party goers and always prefer doing a romantic dinner just the 2 of us for birthdays. This is another baby free activity since it’s normally a later dinner at small cozy restaurant. We used to love going out for cocktails but since having baby Poppy seed this has definitely changed. Therefore the hub’s birthday was the perfect opportunity for cocktails! woohoo!
Restaurant of choice Parlour (underneath Borough) in the Northloop. Spectacular cocktails! I’m not kidding! One of our favorite cocktail places aside from Marvel Bar. Cocktails are $12 each but trust me they are worth it! Truly innovative cocktails using seasonal ingredients! For example my cocktail had butternut squash and it was scrumptious.
Also I should add they have one of the best burgers in town! And with a burger addict husband, this place was a winner! Ground sirloin, rib eye, brisket, american cheese…need I say more? Trust me it is to die for!
Dangerous Man Brewery– last but not least on our birthday agenda was an afternoon stop at Dangerous Man in Northeast Minneapolis. With baby along for the ride this is a fun place to grab a beer and play some games. Known for their stouts and porters, Dangerous Man is a fun indoor space with a relaxed feel. My recommendation would be to go early! This place gets crazy packed and loud so going early especially with a little one is the best.
This wraps up our Hubs Birthday Weekend Extravaganza! Can’t wait until next year!!!
