First flight with the little one was a Success! The trip to Houston went great. I had a perfect sleeping baby the whole way down south. What a good traveler! There is nothing I want more than to travel the world with my little girl and my Mr the way that I was able to travel as a kid. Domestic, international, road trips and flights, my parents took us everywhere! And now as a parent myself, I am so appreciative. Especially knowing how difficult it can be to travel with a little one.
Houston or H-town for the cool peeps, is where I grew up and where my folks live. It is a big city rich in history, different cultures, activities galore and amazing food. There are tons of restaurants, festivals, outdoor sports (since its always hot!) and of course Mexican food. One thing that is unique to Houston is: Everyone has a favorite Mexican restaurant. Let me explain. In some cities, perhaps every family has their favorite coffee shop or pizza place that they frequent all the time no matter what. The place you take visitors to. The place that makes you feel almost as comfortable as being in your own kitchen. In Houston, every family has a favorite Mexican restaurant. First of all, there are over 800 Mexican restaurants in Houston, both authentic and not so authentic. With that may restaurants to choose from and a deep love of the food from our neighbors to the south, it is no wonder that everyone has a favorite. I love this. I think it is a symbolic cultural difference that separates this city from others. It shows the city’s strong connection with Mexico and Mexican cuisine. My family has a favorite as well of course. Ours is “Los Tres Ranchitos.” (Shout out!!!) A little hole in the wall in a strip mall located in a northern Houston suburb. We have been going there for over 10 years, know the wait staff and adore the food. They serve real home cooked food, fabulous margaritas and scrumptious salsa. Going to Los Tres Ranchitos is always a treat every time I come into town. If you are ever in the neighborhood, check it out… you will not be disappointed 🙂
Update: Trip back to Minnesota was also a success! Poppy slept for some of it and played on the seat next to me for an hour or so. That’s right, we had an empty seat next to us! HURRAY! There is nothing better. I think I have a little mini traveler in the family. Yay! Let the traveling begin 😀
