Happy October everyone!
Looking outside this morning, it is one of the most beautiful times of the year in Minnesota. Trees are a sea of different colors, bright crunchy leaves line the streets and sidewalks, and there is a nice crisp chill in the air. A time to build fires and make blanket forts in the living room. Or drink hot cocoa with a tower of whipped cream. Or spend an entire Sunday in your flannel PJs.
Over at CasaT it has been a relatively calm month. With the master bath done (big exhale), we have been enjoying our own little bedroom oasis. It’s crazy how having a bathroom in your bedroom makes you feel like as if you are in your own little world, removed from the rest of the house. Our bedroom has become this fancy hotel room that is chic, cool and not filled with baby toys. And since we are never in our bedroom during the day, it’s fun to end the day in our own little bed and bath paradise. This bathroom was possible thanks to the efforts of my lovely handy hubs. Especially since I helped with about 1% of it!
Next fun house project was the fireplace. Our non-functioning fireplace has been converted to gas. Woot woot. Just a simple button and BOOM FIRE. SOOO NICE! I do love a wood burning fire, but with a baby running around, it is so much nicer knowing the fireplace is enclosed and safe. Plus less work, smoke and hassle. I would highly recommend it!
One new thing we have encountered at our new house are boxelder bugs. These pesky little black bugs have swarmed our siding! They suck! Luckily they do not hurt the house or the siding, instead they are just annoying and dumb! Sounds cruel but I’m looking forward for one really cold night to wipe them out hopefully.
Family wise, we have dealt with a few colds this month but nothing serious. I managed to chop off a big hunk of my thumb chopping kale! Sorry as I’m sure that sounds gross. Note to my fellow cooks, be EXTRA careful using a knife after sharpening it! Major fail on my part! At least I get to look cool rocking a plastic glove MJ style.
Lately our dinners have been mostly belly warming hearty meals. Curries, different chilies and casseroles make the dinner roundup at least once a week. We have been obsessed with open face meatball subs made with homemade bread or ravioli filled with butternut squash. For breakfast the hubs has been digging my one bowl banana bread while Poppy and I are still on the overnight oats train. And as a sweet treat, we have been indulging in snickerdoodle cookies for the last few weeks.
Crazy to think we head out soon on our first long baby-free trip. We are both really excited, but to tell you the truth I’m a little scared. I’m going to miss my little girl so much. UGH! When I was pregnant, I use to always say that taking trips without the baby would be fine and easy. Boy was I wrong! And I know she will be just fine without us, but I will still miss her. Truthfully a part of me wishes she could come with us. Deep down I know it would not be the same trip experience with her but I still want to show her the world. Regardless, I will get over it, right? Even if it takes a lot of face-time or flipping through baby photos at the hotel. I can do this!
Last but not least, we are 10 days away from Halloween! And next week I’m tackling some fun and super duper easy Halloween treats. Nothing fancy or complicated. Just tasty and simple Halloween treats for kids and adults. Stay tuned!
