Hurray is it true? Is it finally Friday? It doesn’t seem real. It’s finally the end of the longest week EVER! We survived!
I know I know… I’ve been talking about this whole moving business for several weeks now. I promise I will stop 😉 but first let me say one last thing. It has been 5 days and it already feels like home. Which is insane. I mean yea we are still trying to figure out where everything goes and losing things left and right. Like keys, phones, shoes, babies. Since the house has a different lay out and is bigger than our old flat, we are still getting acclimated. Overall though, this is home. The place where I spend my days with the 2 people I love the most in the world. We wake up together, eat together and dream together. No matter where we are, if I have my little crew, life is good.
Now that the hard part is over, it’s time for the fun part (at least for me) . Organizing, decorating, and buying a few little things here and there. On the organizing front, I am excited to find better ways to store things. Since this house has an upstairs and downstairs plus a lot more storage, we need to be smarter about where we put stuff. For example, in our old place we had 1 bathroom and 1 medicine closet. That poor closet was a catch-all for everything medicine related without any order or method. So every time the hubs was looking for an allergy pill or Advil it was always a fun quest to see where it ended up. Here I want to be more deliberate about where stuff goes. All the baby stuff goes in the baby room, especially since it all fits for once! Yay! All the cold/sinus/flu meds go in a little box that is separated from all the rest of the stuff in the medicine cabinet. Instead of having 25 random plates and bowls that we’ve taken as hand-me-downs over the years, we now have 1 set of white dinnerware. That’s it. Just one! So you get the gist. I’m trying to take a more organized and “grown up” approach to this house. And of course, with a little one that is almost walking, I know things will get messy. That’s cool. But at least I know there is a place for everything. Which makes my mind feel Zen-like.
Succulents. Ok this is a new thing for me. I have never had plants in the house. Well I take that back. Last year I had a basil plant which died 🙁 Sad day. Mostly because our old house didn’t get very much sun and I may have over-watered that poor little guy. I was so excited to have him that I loved him too much! Over-fed him and he died! Beware I have been known to do this to those I love.
Growing up my mom always had house plants. And at the time I didn’t get it. But now I see the appeal. They bring so much life into the home and in a weird way, they are like pets. And since I don’t have real pets, these are the next best thing. Man I need a dog bad haha! And yes, I will be naming all my plants.
Our favorite space BY FAR is the deck/yard. We never envisioned having a yard like this, and to be frank, we were not even looking for it. It is ginormous! With gorgeous tree, beautiful plants, lilac bushes, rhubarb and even some raspberry bushes! Oh and we even have our version of Stonehenge under a really cool tree. I need to find a name for this tree because it’s the main one in the yard. Also I am already planning on covering it with lights for Christmas.
Lastly, projects. We have long list, I’m talking front and back list, with little and big projects. And as a way to share and document the transformation, I plan to share photos and updates as they happen. The big first one is the master bath. Wish us luck… because we are going to need it!
In the meantime, if you need me, you will find Poppy and I at Ikea.
In honor of the 3 day weekend, I leave you with 3 fun links. One to jam, one to laugh and one to make. Have a fun and safe weekend!
