Big news at our place right now… baby is feeding herself! For the first time! Ever!!! YAY!!!! Up until now our munchkin child has been a phenomenal eater as long, of course, as I am feeding her. She developed this tendency of raising both hands up when she saw a spoon coming towards her and opening her mouth, as if to say “please feed me but don’t you dare make me touch my own food or even worse, feed myself… the horror!” And I was fine feeding her, until a few months ago when we noticed she had the skill to put every little or big inedible objects in her mouth, except for food.
So we took a firmer stance Wednesday night for dinner and had baby food herself dinner. To ease the whole experience, I made mac and cheese for dinner. I mean if I was feeding myself for the first time I would want mac and cheese right? And what do you know, it worked! The hubs and I would guide her arm to the food and then to her mouth and she would eat!!! The next night we tried it again with meatballs, and she got on a roll! All by herself, stuffing her little face with pieces of meatballs. Funny though, when I put green beans or cauliflower in front of her, she didn’t shovel those in her mouth…hmmm… and so it begins 💁
On the home front, I did a lot of cooking this week since it was raining and dark every single day. Some makeahead meals like mac and cheese, meatballs, lentil burgers, chickpea burgers (for baby), muffins and cookies. Also caught up with friends, family and my guilty pleasure show. Oh also, can we talk about how the farmers market is now open and I have not been yet! AHHHHHH damn this house move standing in the way of me and my beloved farmers market. I seriously have an obsession with the FM. The smells, colors, atmosphere, people, food…seeing the different vegetables in their prime glory each week, eating fresh spring rolls for breakfast, listening to the folky but fun band and watching little kids hopping and dancing. I love the St. Paul Farmers Market. Fingers crossed I can go soon!
One thing that is still not happening is running. I’m laying off my left leg for a few more weeks before running again so my main forms of exercise have been:
- Running up and down the stairs to our basement where we are packing packing packing.
- Doing push-ups and lunges in random places and at random times during the day
- Carrying my 22 lbs babykins
Surprisingly I am feeling pretty fit! I mean mainly because of 1 and 2 but you know 3 is cute and helpful too. Who knew that just adding a few push-ups and lunges throughout the day would actually help with definition. It might be my imagination but I do feel like I am getting better results this way than when I use to go to the gym. What?! Don’t get it.
Speaking of cookies, one of my old coworkers and tennis buddies is openings a coffee shop/cookie bakery today! T-Rex Cookies. If you are in the twin cities, go check it out. She makes some of the best and biggest cookies I have ever had. So insanely ooey gooey and soft and delicious… and each one is ½ lbs! Perfect for a cookie meal, or if you feel like sharing… I guess.
Happy weekend all and don’t forget to check the links below, I think they are pretty good ones 👌
