Happy FriYay everyone!
Its been too long! Like way too long. I missed you guys! But we are finally back. Back from our wonderful family trip. And boy has it been a whirlwind. One with lots of laughs, adventures, highs, lows and everything in between. In the end, all I can say is that I have a pretty amazing group of people that I call my family.
Lets start with our Galveston trip. It was a good one. We stayed at a gorgeously renovated AirBnb beach cottage and enjoyed lots of relaxing down time and beach time. Poppy loved the beach too! She played in the sand and in the water and even rocked out to an outdoor Irish rock band concern. Good times.
Back at la Casa de Abuelos, we spend a half a day making homemade Italian food for baby’s first birthday: pasta, gnocchi and tiramisu. And let me tell you baby LOVED it all! She devoured the homemade pasta and red sauce. I mean, she stuffed her face. It was really a sight to see, especially since she makes the funniest sounds when she eats something that she is truly enjoying! Add on some music, balloons, dancing, and it was a party. For dessert, we gave baby a lady finger (leftover from the tiramisu) and she was in heaven. Eating and dancing in her high chair, I would say it was a big success. This was also extra special since we were able celebrate her birthday (although a few days early) with family from out of town.
The rest of the trip was filled with random little adventures and soccer. Copa America guys! The US and Venezuela Teams are still in! Wooohooo!
On the flip side, baby and I had quite the trip back home. It was so bad that it was comical. We started off by having issues at security because the ice pack for her bottles was melted and thus liquid. From there, our first flight involved baby climbing me, having a blow out, teething badly, trying to jump out of my lap, pulling my hair, and kicking the seat in front of us for 2 hours. Once we landed at our layover, where we did not switch planes, Poppy got sick and threw up her lunch + milk all over herself, me and the floor as people were exiting the plane.
Don’t worry it gets better.
Of course, I did not pack a change of clothes for myself. Big mistake! And I somehow only had a change of pants for the baby but no shirt. I asked the crew to see if they had any clothing, you know so that we didn’t stink up the next flight. And one of the male flight attendants pulled out a T-shirt from his own suit case and gave it to me. There still are gentlemen in the world. So armed with my X-Large men’s T-shirt, and half-dressed cranky teething baby, we went back to our seats.
Flight #2 was also fun. Since baby had thrown up her food and milk, she was starving and I ran out of milk. My solution was to ask the crew for apple juice in the baby bottle. And finally halfway through the second flight, baby fell asleep for 30 whole glorious minutes! I felt so bad for her. She was so exhausted, sweaty, smelly and cranky. At that point I just cried. I felt so gross and tired and like a giant failure. It didn’t help that I was unable to eat for about 10 hours. But we made it. Looking like the 2 craziest people to ever get off a plane. The hubs picked us up and said “wow you guys smell.” At that point, I just laughed or cried or both.
Home sweet home. Back home to my wonderful husband and house. Just in time to celebrate our 3 year anniversary.
In the spirit of family, love and being puke-free, I have no links today. Instead I hope you enjoy your weekend with your loved ones counting your blessings and celebrating the small things 💕
