Being first time parents, we had no idea what baby would really truly need. Now having survived the first year and then some, I can confidently recommend the 11 Must-Have Baby Items (0-12 months) that we could not have lived without.
Hey-oh parents or soon to be parents!
Because taking care of a baby for the first year is not already hard enough, you are also supposed to know exactly what products this baby wants and needs to make him/her happy.
In our case, we had no clue. Really. I didn’t even know what some of the items I registered for were used for. We did ask friends and did some research. But of course everyone gave us different opinions. So most of our must-haves were items we ended up purchasing along the way.
Nothing fancy or super expensive on this list (maybe the jogging stroller, but it’s worth it). Just well-made practical items that made baby Poppy happy and kept us sane for the first year.
11 Must-Have Baby Items (0 – 12 months)
We love this changing pad! It is comfy for baby (amazing squishy material) and super easy to clean for us. Just wipe it and boom done. Also it is much longer than most diaper changers so it is perfect for tall and growing babies.
The best, most comfortable and easiest baby carrying device ever! We used it since she was an infant and still use it today! Simply add in the Infant insert which is worth the extra money. It was useful to clean, cook, soothe baby, walk through crowded places and so much more. Best of all, it is the single most important product when we travel, especially traveling solo. Very durable, easy to wash and store. Worth every penny.
This is another life saver for me! I have used this stroller almost every day since she was about 3 months old. This jogging stroller glides like no other. Amazing suspensions, brakes and so effortless to push. We have traveled with it and even fit through the conveyor belt at the airport. If you don’t want to buy a new one, check out Craigslist for used deals.
We purchased this when Poppy was about 6 months old and boy were we missing out! It makes warming up a bottle so easy! Instead of having a screaming baby in the middle of the night waiting 5-7 minutes for a bottle with warm water, this bottle warmer works like magic in 2-3 minutes! Ahhhhh! Why did we wait so long to get one!
This was my father’s day gift to the hubs before having baby and it was a huge hit! Discrete, super durable and extremely spacious, this messenger diaper bag is the perfect man-purse! It was designed as a bike messenger bag and although the hubs doesn’t really bike, it has been amazing. We love it so much that I did not even buy a diaper purse and just use our Timbuk2 instead.
Basic basic basic. This high chair is so basic and yet so genius. Sleek and clean, this high chair has been ideal for baby since the time she started on solids. It is so easy to clean, uncomplicated to take apart thus perfect for travel, and ideal for eating inside, outside or anywhere you want to take it. Also it is super affordable 👍
We lucked out and found this toy second hand. Little did we know it would not only entertain baby but also help her walk! Poppy has always loved the music, the lights and the buttons on this walker. Happy baby = happy parents.
When we signed Poppy up for her first swim lessons, it was a requirement that she wear “swing pants” or a bathing suit that would hold in the poopies. These reusable Alva bathing suits have been so useful! Lots of snaps means they fit as baby is growing. They clean easily and trust me when I say they do prevent accidents. Plus they are super cute!
I truly underestimated this toy. I registered for it thinking it was cute. But little did I know, it was a toy must have. Poppy has loved this ball since she was a tiny infant learning how to grab onto things all the way through learning how to throw the ball back and forth. I love traveling with it as it packs up easily too. Simple toys are the best!
Again we got really lucky on this one. We found it second hand and wow has it been practical! Once we strapped it into the Bob jogging stroller and the cold Mid-western months hit, we used this comfy Bundle-me sleeping bag type device all the time! So nice to know baby is warm and protected from wind, snow and harsh elements. Plus it kept me sane, being able to go outside even in the winter. Countless winter walks and runs using this cozy Bundle-me. Best part is that it is quite large, so I imagine Poppy will be using it for a while.
When baby went through her swing-loving phase, the 4Moms MamaRoo Baby Swing was our favorite device! Baby would spend hours in this thing throughout the day. It is quiet and sleek and has several speed settings. Also I can attest, after countless gross incidents, that it does clean really easily. Just remove cover and throw in washing matching. Gotta love that!
So that is the round up guys. We truly loved all of these products and wholeheartedly recommend them. And even though our little one is now past her 1 year (already 15 months), most of these products are still rocking our world!
What are your favorite baby products? I’d love to hear about them!
