Living in a cold weather climate, there are some things that really help make the winter less miserable. Here’s what we are Currently Loving in January.
Happy middle of frigid, negative degree weather January! I hope you are having a warmer January than us in the MinneSnowta!
I know weather talk can get old, but man it’s been cold here! Like weeks when the high is 4 all week. THE HIGH! And of course that doesn’t account for the lovely wind-chill that normally makes it feel more like -15.
As much as I am slowly become more accustomed to the Midwestern winters and actually enjoy parts of it, I sometimes need a little help.
Thankfully there are a few key things that are helping to improve our lives in the cold months. Here are our Currently Loving Winter Favorites keeping us warm, happy and sane.
- [amazon text=Toddler Winter Boots&asin=B004QL9GUE]
With so much snow outside, our Poppy is outfitted to stay warm and mobile in the snow. These Northside winter boots have been amazing! Heaving duty, great traction, warm and easy to wear. They allow her to easy walk in the snow or on an icy sidewalk. Love them!
- [amazon text=Royal Robbins Flannel Shirt&asin=B0184D0VGW]
My Hubs has a slight obsession with flannel shirts, it’s no surprise. And his favorite brand is Royal Robbins because they are amazing! Warm but breathable, great for different body types (slim fitting vs wide), and different flannel weights. The hubs just got this particular one and color for his birthday and he loves it. Plus he looks pretty damn handsome so that’s another perk.
- [amazon text=Flannel Sheets&asin=B0182R2YQA]
When the winter sets in around December every year, we go through the house changing all sheets to flannel! Flannel everywhere! It’s an absolute must! Seriously the best way to stay cozy in a cold bed is with flannel sheets. And they don’t make you sweat trust me. Unless your house is 90 degrees, then you will be perfectly cozy in these sheets.
- [amazon text=Tea Variety Pack&asin=B010U0BO4K]
I’ve become much more of a tea drinker lately. And since I haven’t ventured out too much, I am starting to discover the vast world of herbal teas. So far, as I learn what I like, I’ve been digging variety packs. Each new tea bag is a new discovery and tasty adventure 😃 My favorites include Twinings and Harvey & Sons
- [amazon text=Star Wars Epic Yarns Book&asin=145213393X]
Our tiny tot loves Star Wars. She has never seen the movies, she just LOVES any Star Wars related book. And this adorable Star Wars book with all the scenes made of yarn is her current fav. A fun book to teach kids new words too. At this point she can say about 6 words from the book!
- [amazon text=Everyone Lotion (coconut + lemon)&asin=B0070TSNSA]
Since it’s cold and dry, we are going through TONS of lotion. Otherwise I get alligator skin! Not cool! I’ve tried a lot of different lotions over the years, from the more well-known Aveeno to natural lotions, both with and without fragrance. Right now the hubs and I are actually sharing this lotion and loving it. Completely non-GMO and made with plant extracts and scented with pure essential oils, this lotion has a lovely subtle fragrance of a tropical vacation. Coconut with a hint of lemon is so nice, unisex and completely calming. Definitely not an overpowering scent at all.
- [amazon text=Smart Wool Socks&asin=B00KNRE4RU]
I didn’t know how amazing wool socks were until I moved to Minnesota, and now I wear them 24 hours a day all winter long. Favorite brand, most durable and best performing are Smart Wool! We have tried other brands which are OK, but Smart Wool Socks take the prize. Love both the calf and knee high ones in all the fun colors. Perfect for daily wear, outdoor active wear or just lounging around the house.
- [amazon text=Here Alicia Keys&asin=B01LYF7Q1S]
With more and more cold days spent indoors, new music is a must. Lately I’ve been digging Alicia Key’s new album. Love love love this woman. She can do no wrong! Plus that cover! GORGEOUS!
- [amazon text=Programmable Crockpot&asin=B004P2NG0K]
Our crockpot gets a major workout in the winter months. This January thus far I’ve used him like 10 times! Everything from carnitas, to chicken to oatmeal, to beans. Since it’s programmable, its beyond easy to get it going and then it will shut off and keep food warm for you.
- [amazon text=Le Creuset Dutch Oven&asin=B0076NOMKI]
Oh how I love my lovely Sebastian! That’s our orange Le Creuset Dutch Oven’s name. This is my favorite pot in the kitchen hands down. Heats evenly and is ideal for winter soups, stews, chili, braised meats and so much more. It is not cheap but worth every penny and will last a LIFETIME.
11. [amazon text=Warm Cozy Sherpa Throw Blanket&asin=B0158EQJSY]
If I am not in the kitchen there is a 99% chance I have one of these blankets on me. So cozy, warm and necessary for chilly days and nights. My favorite activity lately is sitting in front of the fireplace with a lovely blanket reading books to my Poppy. Doesn’t get much better than that! Just living the cozy winter life.
