It was my 31st birthday yesterday 2 days ago and it was exactly the kind of family day I love. Since my birthday, it has been constant madness around here, but as I sit here with 2 awake kiddos at 330am I am still savoring that special day.
Day in the life on my 31st birthday
2-3:30AM
The day started off like it normally does with 2 early baby wake up calls. One from 2-330am and another at 6am with my cute, hungry and awake little Bean.
6AM
Time for a decaf and some pumping.
6:45AM
Poppy started talking over the monitor and was ready for me to get her from her room. Unfortunately she didn’t get the memo that it was my birthday as evident from the 20 minutes straight of hysterical crying and screaming once she got downstairs.
7:05AM
A haze of diaper changing, feeding and burping. Plus a quick birthday call from my mom while I prepped Poppy a little smoothie and read some sweet bday texts.
7:45AM
The hubs woke up and gave me my birthday gift. 1. the most adorable birthday card with photos of the us, the girls and our travels 2. a new travel book 3. a mommy day planned out with my favorite activities to take whenever I want.
8:20AM
Starving! So we packed up the girls, their 1 million things and headed to breakfast.
9AM
Got a table outside (it was a gorgeous 60 degrees) and ordered pastries and cappuccinos! It was pretty much a picture perfect way to start the morning… good conversation, cute company, delicious food, dreamy coffee and the girls behaved little angels which dint hurt 😉
It honestly felt like we were sitting in a cafe in Europe somewhere. Plus it was the first time this fall I got to wear a comfy sweater… so that was pretty awesome!
11AM
After a good 2 hours of sipping and chatting, we packed the kids and went home for a little while.
1PM
Next up on the birthday itinerary was one of my all-time favorites things to do: PICNICS!
The hubs planned a crazy good picnic spread which we enjoyed at a local park. Our picnic included smoked fish, 3 cheeses, bread, dates, olives, German cookie and some tasty Orangina!
2:30PM
Siesta time. The plan was for all of us to nap or relax, but instead, the hubs and Bean took a nap, Poppy played in her room during her daily quiet time and I got some stuff done around the house. That’s normally how we roll.
4-7PM
The rest of the afternoon flew by. Birthday wine, the movie Frozen, a fun messy pasta dinner for Poppy, time with the baby, bath time for both the girls, another toddler meltdown, and an extra long toddler story time.
7:15PM
Poppy goes to bed and the hubs starts making my birthday dinner – Pasta alla arrabbiata with scallops. Complete with bread, wine and post dinner cocktails/chocolate. Luckily Bean slept through dinner so we got some alone time.
10PM
My birthday ended with us curled up on the couch watching an Andy Samberg mockumentary and me passing out, since I apparently can’t handle cocktails anymore!
A day enjoying my favorite things with my favorite people was exactly how I wanted to spend my birthday. Thanks to the hubs for making it happen 😍
