There is nothing worse than being hungry on a long flight especially with a fuss hangry toddler!? Today we are talking Airplane Food – Packing Healthy Favorites.
[Post Updated 4/12/19] – I’m off on a trip with my little Beany soon and I’m pretty excited. She has not been able to travel as much as her sister so I can’t wait to share this trip with her. That being said, she is at the worse age for travel. So wiggly, opinionated, won’t sit still, doesn’t nap much, doesn’t watch much TV, and shortest attention span EVER! My only saving grace are good snacks because she is a slow eater. Wish me luck… I’m going to need it!
Airplane food sucks and it’s overpriced. FACT.
From the lame-O snacks to the flavorless “meals.” They are not great. So why not BYOAF – Bring your own airplane food!
With the amount of airplane travel I’ve done in my life and now with family in another state, I am passionate about packing healthy airplane snacks. And kids into this equation and good food is even more important.
Of course you can buy yourself a 15 dollar mediocre burger with your fussy toddler, bags and all the extra time you have at the airport, but let’s be real. It’s way easier to just pack food in your carry-on or backpack. Plus I don’t know about you, but I think eating good snacks makes the flight go by a little faster.
So today I wanted to share our favorite airplane snacks! These are all super healthy and satisfying snacks that are easy to pack and enjoy with your little one(s). Also I included a few actual meal options for longer flights. All recipes are included below the chart for your traveling pleasure 😃
Homemade Toddler Lara Bars. Easy to pack and eat with tiny hands. Loaded with protein, fiber and naturally sweetened.
Homemade Graham Crackers. These are awesome snacks for toddlers! And if your kids love peanut butter, you can make peanut butter cracker sandwiches. Yum yum!
Favorite Energy Protein Ball Recipes:
- Cranberry Coconut Protein Balls
- Pina Colada Energy Balls
- No-Bake Chocolate Energy Balls
- Peanut Butter Oatmeal Balls
Out of this world Banana Bread. Since Poppy has been an angel during the last few flights, I seem to bring this snack more and more often. Basically it’s part of my Me-Time routine. While Poppy sits in her seat next to me enjoying her snacks and Curious George, I sip on some lovely tea with a big slice of this Banana bread in silence. It is heavenly.
Trail Mix – tart cherries, walnuts and some other goodies makes this snack ideal for flights. It’s easy to eat, nothing melts and it saves great!
Mediterranean Quinoa Salad. A simple healthy fuss-free salad that is delightful to eat and even easier to pack. All you need is a small container and a plastic spoon. It’s an ideal protein packed to-go meal.
Roasted Veggie Hummus Wrap. (by Joyful Healthy Eats)
Another protein packed easy meal. One of these bad boys with a few pretzels and you will be all set for a few hours.
