WARNING. These treats are not intended for humans. What I mean is, they are made by humans but enjoyed by man’s best friend. Dogs. Healthy 5 ingredient Dog Treats are my favorite way to show my furry friends that I care and give them a special treat. Plus they are super easy and make for awesome doggie bag gifts!
I do not have a dog 😭 Sad I know. And I love dogs. Somewhat obsessed really. Always have been. Definitely my spirit animal. I use to be a little nutty about them. But in recent years I have gotten better and stopped mauling random people with dogs, chatting them up and petting their puppies. I am attempting to be a more normal member of society. ahem….
The reason I do not have a dog? I am allergic. Not deadly allergic. But allergic enough to make living with one, not fun.
Growing up I pretty much always had dogs. Poli was our first dog. I don’t really remember him much since I was a toddler, but I love hearing stories about him. He was a white lab-looking mutt. Very energetic and a little wild. He apparently loved chasing people at the beach trying to nip at their butts!
Then came Rocco. A small beautiful white Spitz with a big personality. I grew up with him. During that point in my life, around middle school, my dad traveled a lot for work. So Rocco became my furry brother. I remember talking to him, dressing him up (which for the record he hated), and going on adventures with him. He was a good dog. I miss him.
Now I have a big cuddly furry sister, Mocha. A big fluffy affectionate lab that loves being around people. She is the most loyal and sweet dog I know. Just wants to be pet and loved all day everyday. She is such a daddy’s girl too. Her and my dad are inseparable. And although I only see her a few times a year, she always gives me the warmest of welcomes.
As for my house, no dogs. As much as I would love to have one, I do not want to live with constant allergies. So instead I get my doggie fix from the rest of the wonderful canine buddies in my life. And as a little token of my love for them, here is the best and easiest 5 Ingredient Dog Treat.
Don’t worry, this recipe has been vetted and approved by several canines in my life. Big and small. They all give it 2 paws up!
5-Ingredient Dog Treats
Slightly adapted from Giada’s PB Dog Treats
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 cup low sodium chicken broth
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter, at room temperature
Set oven to 375 degrees F. Spray a baking sheet with cooking oil or line with a silicon baking mat.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, oats and baking powder. Stir in the broth and peanut butter until well combined. Press the dough together to form a ball.
On a lightly floured work surface, knead dough for 30 seconds until smooth. Divide the dough in half and roll out one of the dough balls about 1/2-inch thick. Using your favorite cookie cutter, cut out treats and place on the prepared baking sheet (any scraps of dough can be formed into a ball and re-rolled). Repeat with second ball of dough.
Bake until golden and firm, about 20 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and cool. Store in an airtight container.
