It’s going to be a great year, I can feel it. And I’m kicking if off by sharing my 2018 Intentions – things I want to focus on being.
I’m a goal setter. As evident by my list of goals I set every season. Normally things I want to do with the family on that particular season. But when it comes to a new year and a new beginning, I am not a big fan of resolutions.
Resolutions sound great in theory but to say that you are going to do or not do something for an entire year is pretty much impossible. And don’t get me wrong I love goal setting, but I love it in the short-term. Like I want to work out 10 times this month or eat less sugar this month. Seems doable right?
To start off this year (although 12 days late… um kids), I’m trying something new. I’m pretty excited about it too. Today I am sharing my 2018 Intentions.
How are intentions different from resolutions? Resolutions are kind of like goals, they are focused on doing and achieving, like a to-do list. Intentions are focused on being. Resolutions are rigid while intentions are flexible.
I want my intentions to represent my hopes, values and ultimately who I want to be a year from now. My intentions are simple flexible and forgiving. Everyday I will try to embody them, knowing that some days are harder than others and that’s OK. As long as I try to am mindful of them, I will be successful.
So enough about that, let’s get to the good stuff.
Instead of typing them, I am taking pointers from A Balanced Blonde, and writing them out by hand. Similar to my daily 5 minute gratitude journal, I feel much more connected to my thoughts and feelings when I hand-write. Plus it’s a fun way to get creative.
2018 I’m ready for you!
1. Waste Less / Consume Less / LIVE MORE
I want to waste less and consume less in every aspect of my life. Not only because I want to live more simply with what I truly need but also because I want to be kinder to the environment.
Waste less food, waste less time on my phone, and waste less time worrying about silly things. Consume less packaged foods and consume less stuff I don’t need. Live more by being fearless and unafraid of trying new things. Focus time and money on experiences rather than stuff.
More to come in an upcoming posts on how my daily habits embody this particular intention.
2. Practice kindness everyday and Give Back
I know the first way to change this often crazy world is to start with yourself. This year I want to focus on everyday acts kindness. Kindness to my loved ones, strangers and those in need.
I hope to BE that good friend that sends you texts encouraging you, supporting you or just thinking of you. I intend to help my family and Venezuelans who are suffering. I want to give back this year in the form of volunteering with my girls and the hubs. We have never volunteered as a family before so 2018 is the year to start!
3. RELAX
Self-care, me-time, sleep and just saying no! This is always a struggle for me. I want to keep this intention top of mind as I continue to find a balance between being a mom, taking care of my home/family, blogging, being a wife and being a friend.
4. Practice Slow Living and Be Patient
With 2 kiddos under 3, life is NEVER as I plan it. Seriously some days I can’t find the time to eat or shower! Yet I’m becoming more and more OK with the chaos. Slow Living involves slowing down, living life more simply and being mindful about connecting with one another.
Instead of hurrying up the girls, over-scheduling and feeling busy 24/7, I want to take things slower and have patience. Interruptions, inopportune blowouts, meltdowns, accidents, being late to everything… 2018 will be filled with all of this and more. My plan is to breathe and enjoy the craziness.
5. Be Present. Be Positive.
This is a special time for our young family and I intent to be present for every moment as much as I humanly can. Whether I’m playing with the girls, feeding Beany a bottle or having dinner with the hubs, I want to be there in the moment entirely. Not with my head in the clouds or thinking about my to-do list.
Similarly I want to be a positive force for my girls showing them that even when things don’t go their way, there is always a positive side. I want to look for the good in people even what it’s difficult to do so. Lead my example right? I intend to force myself to look for the positive in things this year because life is way more fun when I’m being positive.
My intentions will hang in my closet where I can look at them everyday 🙏 A simple way to start the day motivated to be the version of myself in 2018.
What are your intentions for the new year!? I’d love to hear about them 😀
